Welcome traveler!

I am the Mermaid. I have lived in the Baltic Sea for over 100 years. You may not know it, but many sailors have tried to find valuable treasures at the bottom of the sea. Some of them have dedicated their entire lives to the search, but they didn't know the most important thing.

The most valuable treasure of the Baltic is fish.

The most valuable treasure of the Baltic is fish. Not only because there are fewer and fewer of them in our sea, but also because they have extraordinary nutritional value.

Fish is easy to digest

Fish is easy to digest

Why do you think I have such a slim figure? It's because I eat fish. Just like the human body, the mermaid's body digests fish very easily. What does that mean? I will tell you using strawberries as an example. You may have noticed that after eating a strawberry, you feel hungry again after just a short while. This means that the strawberry was digested quickly, which means that it is easy to digest. On the other hand, when we eat meat, especially the fatty, the feeling of satiety lasts for a very long time.

It is said that it sits on the stomach for a long time. This is because meat can be hard to digest. Fish meat has protein and fat in it, which the human body can digest quickly. That is why they are good for people who care about their figure. But I think that instead of watching your figure, you should pay attention to what you eat and what nutritional value it has.

Nutritional values of Baltic fish

What do you think that fish have in them, that they can be called the treasure of the Baltic Sea? They have nutritional values that complement our diet with nutrients. I will introduce you to some of them.

Proteins

The proteins provided in food are the real deal! They provide a source of energy and are the building blocks of new tissues in the body. They also replenish old tissues, help with their growth and with their regeneration, e.g. after an injury! When we lack protein, we feel hungry and cold.

After eating foods rich in protein we feel a surge of energy and we warm up - they give us strength. Proteins are also a part of hormones and antibodies that fight germs, defending our body's immunity.

Protein is available in a variety of products, but fish protein is extremely well absorbed by our bodies.

Fatty acids

Time 45 minutes45 minutes

Fatty acids

Fish have a unique fatty acid composition. Unlike meat products, they contain small amounts of saturated fatty acids (bad for health), but are rich in essential unsaturated fatty acids (good for health). They are very important in our diet, because we can not produce them ourselves and we need to supplement them in the diet. We constantly need them to function well.

Good fatty acids are like restaurant food delivery drivers - they provide the body with essential vitamins dissolved in them. They support immunity by transporting  vitamins A, D, E and K. They also have a beneficial effect on heart rhythm and brain function.

Fish, unlike other animals, have more of these good fats in them. Therefore, it is said that the fattier the fish, the better it is for health, while the fattier the pork knuckle, the worse it is.

Trivia

Among the good acids contained in fish, we find for example n-3 (omega-3) acids, which improve mood, so I am always cheerful. They also make it easier to take care of my figure, so I am slim and, furthermore, they affect the healthy look of my skin, hair and nails.

Fish has no bad fatty acids

There are also fatty acids that are bad for human health. They are like vandals. First they accumulate in the form of fat tissue and after some years they clog arteries and veins. As a result, they lead to cardiovascular diseases, causing blood to stop moving freely through the body. Therefore, these bad fats should be avoided, because they wreak havoc.

Trivia

Inuit  from Greenland rarely suffer from atherosclerosis, strokes or heart attacks. Their diet consists mainly of fatty fish and marine animals full of good fatty acids. Moreover, they have lower cholesterol levels and lower blood pressure. They are also less likely to suffer from asthma or osteoporosis.

Raw fish meat is a rich source of vitamins. Fatty fish are rich in vitamins A and D, while lean fish meat contains a lot of B vitamins.
Fish also contains a lot of vitamins, which are named after the first letters in the alphabet, except for the letter C. These vitamins are A B D E and can be called bodyguards because they protect various important areas:

B vitamins improve our intellectual performance . They protect our nervous system (B2), thus improving our mood and mental health. They affect proper bone growth and proper development of the skeletal system (B1). They lower the level of cholesterol in our blood and improve digestion (B3). They have positive effect on brain, heart, respiratory system and muscles(B4). They affect blood pressure, muscle contractions and strengthen body immunity (B6). Vitamin B12 is the only vitamin that is not found in plant products, and fish meat is one of the richest sources of this vitamin. Its deficiency can cause worse mood and affect the overall condition of our body.

Vitamin B

Vitamin D

It plays a very important role in the body, including stimulating the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, thus having a huge impact on the proper formation of bones in children, and their proper density. Vitamin D can prevent hypertension, heart diseases, allergies, anemia and diabetes.

Seafood

You probably might be familiar with the term "seafood," also called "frutti di mare" [frutti - fruit; de mare - sea] in Italian. They are usually edible mollusks and crustaceans, such as mussels, shrimp or crabs. They are prepared in various ways and some people are simply crazy for them. Their enthusiasts can be found in Italy, Spain and other countries around the Mediterranean Sea. Do you think it is possible to eat seafood from the Baltic Sea?

Unfortunately, due to the fact that the Baltic Sea is not very salty, Baltic seafood is only found in dwarf, tiny form and is not used in the food industry. It is worth knowing that most seafood served in restaurants comes from seas saltier than the Baltic one.
