Differences between farmed and caught fish

When buying fish, we face a choice: farmed or caught? The decision we make can affect our health.

Fishing fish are usually characterised by a much better taste and, above all, a higher content of valuable nutrients. This is due to the conditions in which fish are raised in aquacultures. The intensive growth, unnatural diet and lack of exercise mean that farmed fish contain far fewer nutrients. Exceptions to this are ASC green-certified farms, which are independently inspected.

When it comes to caught fish, when buying them it is worth checking where they come from and whether they were caught responsibly. It is best to choose fish from local catches, such as those from the Baltic Sea. This way we can support the local community, reduce the need for transport and have more certainty that the fish are fresh.

It is also worth ensuring that the products we buy come from sustainable fisheries, i.e. those that do not lead to overfishing. It is also worth ensuring that the products we buy come from sustainable fisheries, i.e. fisheries that do not lead to overfishing. This is ensured by, for example, the blue MSC logo and the navy blue NATURALNIE BAŁTYCKIE logo.
